Idol Mania!

It seems like life is staying pretty busy these days but when we heard about the idols coming to SLC on July 14th, I immediately booked tickets. Life is just flying by and I feel like you have got to catch a few things along the way that make you smile...(like the theatrics of ADAM:)
Warming up the camera...
After all of the pre-show video and all the hype to get the show started, it was a bummer (for me dawg) that they didn't start with a huge opening group number. (We were all dying to see our favorites). I am sure they do that to keep the hype for the final 2 people at the end but the reality of "let-down" sunk in when they started right off the bat with #10 Michael performing. I like him but forgot to take a pic:)
Next was Megan Joy. She is a cute gal and hopefully she felt some love from her hometown crowd.
Scott was actually one of our favorites that night. Steve thought he sounded the most improved and I just loved how crystal clear his voice was--plus you add in the emotion of what he has overcome in his life and you just have to love him!
I keep wanting to call her "Lil Kim" but Lil Rounds pulled out the Beyonce-type performance. She does everything great but there is something about her that still doesn't click and I feel bad for her as I know she has tried to find that perfect fit this whole time. It was a message to me dawg that you just need to be who you are. I think we all fell in love with the person we first knew who was that short-haired spunky gal. She is still darling but doesn't come across 100% authentic to us.
Anoop was another one that sounded pretty good but was still trying to experiment/find his performing niche.
It felt like he was trying to imitate Justin Timberlake or someone minus the dance training. The purple high-tops with the button up jacket (above) didn't do it for us but he is still a good singer:) After the first 6 performers, they made us wait until "after the break" (intermission) to see the rest.
Oops! I think I skipped Matt somewhere...but on to Allison! What a doll!
They really staged her well with the lights and the fan blowing her hair as she rocked out on the guitar! She is so good!
Danny was also good and inspirational as he shared again what he had been through just prior to the competetion (losing his wife).
Of course I am forgetting the words now but his song reminds us to dream big (or something along those lines:)
FINALLY it was time!! The crowd went wild!
Whether it was his slow song...
or the duet with Allison...
He just works it out!
Pictures never even do things justice but he was pretty entertaining!
Although I wouldn't buy his CD's, he is so fun to watch perform!
The final straw was the "rip-away" outfit that took him down to the vest. I am sure the gay-guys in the audience were going as wild as the mother and daughter sitting next to us:)
After all of the hype for Adam, I was worried everyone wasn't going to cheer as loud for Kris! He really worked it out though dawg:) and was so good! He went from guitar to piano accompanying himself; showing his talents. He sounded so great and even though Adam is more entertaining, Kris was awesome vocally!
They put on a great show!
I love when they sang, "Don't stop...believing" at the end!
Until next season I guess...
The most unflattering angle ever-but after several failed attempts of people trying our point and shoot camera-- we finally got this family picture at the end. The gal who ended up taking it was Adam's high school prom date and was headed back stage with her hubby to say hi to him! I would love to be a fly on the wall for that one!

Canyons School District Goes Live Today!

Today is the day! After months of hard work, the Canyons District officially opens July 1, 2009! This past weekend included activities corresponding with the opening.
Steve was the MC of the stage show prior the the opening of the Sat. night REAL soccer game.
That theater background always comes in handy for him!
Announcing team winners from the kids leagues/games earlier that day.
The Hillcrest cheerleaders entertaining out front.
The crowd going wild for the free District "stuff" being thrown to them.
Before the game.
Steve was a judge of "Canyons Idol" which was held a few weeks earlier to select the student who would sing the National Anthem that night at the game. Here she is on the jumbotron and she did a fantastic job!
That was our first time in the stadium. It is beautiful and I bet Sandy City is pumped they have it now even though it was the big bucks to get it!
Well of course a ton more work (than just this soccer event) went into getting the district ready
for the big day today! (But I had to show the sunset that night...I can just hear my Mom saying, "Oh girls!":) Countless hours have been spent getting computer programs, personnel, etc etc ready! Steve has worked so hard along with the rest of the team to be prepared and we are SO proud of him! He has put in so many hours that we can't even remember what he looks like:)--but still we are proud of him and his efforts to ensure success in whatever he does! Way to go Canyons!
