Round II of "A Brand New Year!"

The General Leaders of the church launched a program for the youth of the church to participate in at the beginning of each new year. The purpose of the "mini youth conference" is to set goals and make commitments to live by and follow throughout the year. It is also to learn and become more familiar with the scripture theme for the year. This year is Joshua 1:9..."be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest."
I actually haven't heard of any other ward that took this program on to do for their youth but I am not surprised that our ward did as our YW President is amazing and a total over-achiever!:). She is a returned missionary and is SO sharp! I have learned so much from her and admire her example!
The day started with the youth meeting at the church to prepare for our service project at the rest home. The kids divided into groups depending on what they wanted to help with. Some cut out decorations for Valentines to decorate the residents' doors with and others prepared impromptu skits and musical numbers for the show we were to put on for the rest home residents 1 hour later!
Going to town on the decorations!
Getting ready!

You can always count on the YM to make the activity as fun as possible!

The residents enjoying the show!
Our youth are so talented; often the leads in plays at the high school and elsewhere.
We will miss Savanah and her beautiful voice when she graduates this year!
More musical talent...

Decorating the doors to brighten the residents' day!
I left the rest home a little early to help get the dinner down to the church. Steve is a pro at calculating and helping to cook for a "party of 100!" We will have to remember to use multiple outlets as those warmers use a ton of power:)! Luckily no fire or blown fuses etc this time:)!
The Miamaid leaders set the tables and decorated.
We had couples from the ward come and give instructions/tips for the "etiquette dinner" to groups of youth in multiple rooms.
They did a great job!
Thanks for helping out!
Next came the fun of matching up the youth for a combined etiquette dinner! The YM all took off their ties and the YW were matched with the owner of the tie. The ties were grouped slightly so age groups could kind of be together:).
So fun to watch them!
Posing for me...
Waiting to see who the tie belongs to:)...
The YM gave each YW a rose and escorted her to the cultural hall for dinner!
Ladies in waiting:)

Our 45 YW kind of out-number the YM, so we had one YW by each side of a YM. The twins are so cute here with their older brother!

This whole night must have been so exciting as our YW secretary delivered her baby the next day!
It is fun to have both spouses in youth callings! Date night!
Dinner!

We served Aunt Larene's sweet and sour meatballs, rice, peas, rolls and salad!
That day was Alen Boone's 16th b-day and his Mom surprised him during dinner with a little "tribute!" She is hilarious!
Her Bear costume!
They are the neatest family and I think it says a lot about him being at a church activity on his "special day:)."
Intermixed throughout the day and night were DVD clips from the church that were shown and the youth could set/write goals etc. After the last DVD, they were back for dessert.
They finished the night with dance instruction. Here are the instructors warming up. It was such a great day and I think the youth really enjoyed being together participating in all of the service, fun and spiritual growth. There was a great spirit there all day. It was a lot of work and coordination, but it went well!
