It's Ruff, Ruff, Ruff, Ruff being the Dog!

Some days it is "ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff" being a dog, eating dinner out of a can... (joke-this is a song from one of Mikelle's choir groups a few years back, but it reminds us of our beloved Dog (nickname for Steve; it's a long story:)

This Father's Day, we wanted to say THANK YOU again for who you are and all you do! Not every dad is such a pro with construction (including creative ideas and meticulously checking mesurements when finishing your basement). Also being a "hands-on" partner raising the kids and changing diapers!

We appreciate you getting up all of those freezing mornings to snow-blow, shovel, and ice-melt the horrible driveway so we aren't playing "cliffhanger" off the rocks when trying to get the kids to school!

I don't know too many other dads who will help with family pictures by helping to coordinate clothing and then help get the kids ready ETC!!

Mikelle feels lucky to have such an awesome Dad who is worthy to baptize her and the boys soon to come.

So to summarize this post we just wanted to say... we LOVE our "DOG" aka paparat. Happy Father's Day Pop!

i CANNOT believe you know the "rough, rough... bein a dog" song!

i learned that back in like 3rd grade, jeez, maybe even 2nd. born in '78, so you do the math of the year it musta been.

noone knows that damn song, i wish i could find an mp3 of it.

other great school jams i've been looking for are" "dippy doo", "wonders never cease" (do you mean you've never seen, a goat so glad to wheel a lad, an ox cut noodles, by the oodles, wonders neevr cease! oh! wonders never cease!) and of course the classic, "i know an old lady who swallowed a fly, i don't know why she swallowed the fly, i guess, she'll, die!"

that last one might be easier to find, but in anycase, glad someone knows the old dogs tale of woe!

WAIT!!! I know that song too! ... Er, or used to know it. Do either of you remember the lyrics and if so, could you write them out for me?

Thanks!

We had those songs at Madison Elementary in Blaine MN.

I've a pair of oxen, oxen, oxen who cut noodles, noodles. do you mean you've never seen an ox cut noodles by the oodles? Wonders never cease Oh wonders never cease.

I've a pair of bears, bears, bears who like to bake, bake. Do you mean you've never seen a bear who baked a layer cake an ox cut noodles by the oodles? Wonders never cease Oh wonders never cease.

I've a pair of...goats? I don't remember tha one but there were a bunch and they all got wrapped into the refrain.

I don't know the dog song, but I was looking for the wonders never cease song and found your website :) I'm still looking to find one of these old elementary school song books. Where do they go? I'm also looking for a slower song that has lyrics like 'in a spanish garden stands a little tree, in the summer it's a lovely thing to see..." Anyway, i know more of the lyrics to the wonders never cease song, so I thought i'd add them for posterity :)

a bird to bake a layered cake, a hen so good at gathering wood, a dog to think to write with ink, a goat so glad to wheel a lad, a bear who sweeps rooms without a broom, an ox cut noodles by the oodles, wonders never cease oh wonders never cease.

I found this page when I was searching for the "In a Spanish garden stands a little tree" song from elementary school... Looks like someone else in the comments is searching for the same. This page is literally the ONLY hit on a google search for it!! Still searching...

Holy cow, this page IS the only hit for this song! I also had it in elementary school in NJ, probably circa 79-83ish. I found similar lyrics in a yiddish folk song, so that must be where it derived from. Funny the stuff you remember 30 years later. Good times. :)

Thank you to the folks who provided the lyrics to "Wonders Never Cease." At one point in my search, I found reference to a similar song in Yiddish, but it's strange that a bunch of us remember this song but there are so few references. I am tempted to put a little recording on my blog with an entreaty to the person who composed it to come forth and claim his or her credit. (It's a 3 chord song!)

P.S. For some reason, I just saw Lissa D's comments. I wonder if we went to the same elementary school....

I've been looking for a version of Wonders Never Cease for years also! it doesn't seem to exist anywhere. it was my favorite song to sing as a kid, probably between 1983-87-ish.

if anyone could record a version of this and post it on youtube, that would be so spectacular. i'd love to learn it, but i barely remember what it even sounds like, or how the melody goes.

I know the oxen song too! Sang it in choir in third grade (circa 1982) (at Monroe Christian School in Louisiana). I got it stuck in my head today when I was making homemade pasta - and indeed, this site was the only hit! Neat that others from elsewhere sang it too!

I learned this song in the 1st grade in music class in Iowa. I sang it in a talent show in 3rd grade in Arkansas. I cannot remember it exactly:

In a Spanish garden stands a little tree, in the Springtime it's a lovely thing to see
For it wears a coat of bright green, a brand new coat of bright green.

In a Spanish garden stands a little tree
In the Autumn it's a lovely thing to see, for it wears a coat of..... gold, a brand new coat of ....gold.

In a Spanish garden stands a little tree, in the winter it's a lovely thing to see, for it wears a coat of glistening white, a brand new coat of glistening white! Hahahhaha

Cannot remember Summer. Cannot remember all of Autumn. I know the melody for sure though.

Yes .I too was looking for the lyrics because I've had it in my head for years. Probably in the late seventies. We also sang a portion of a record and song book I believe was called SING. With traditional folk songs and sing out, America. Would love to know if anyone remembers that?
